0335 - No contexto europeu / In the European context

Os “Timber Circles” são característicos das lhas britânicas e, com características diferentes, de partes da Europa Central. O que está a aparecer nos Perdigões pode ser inserido genericamente neste mundo. No caso britânico, estas estruturas têm sido interpretadas de duas formas: uma relacionando-as com círculos de postes que seriam a versão em madeira dos círculos feitos de pedra (stone circles e mesmo Stonehenge); outra relacionando-os com estruturas de grandes edifícios “públicos” de madeira. O recinto dos Perdigões aparenta ter algumas particularidades em face deste contexto genérico. Com o resultado das escavações deste ano iremos explorar esta contextualização, num estudo prévio e provisório, enquanto não for possível ter a planta integral. Mas fica já claro que, se as duas últimas décadas introduziram a Península Ibérica no contexto europeu do debate sobre recintos de fossos, esta descoberta nos Perdigões introduz a definitivamente a península no contexto Europeu destes recintos (ou edifícios) de madeira.

The "Timber Circles" are characteristic of British islands and, with different characteristics, of parts of Central Europe. What is appearing in Perdigões can be inserted generically in this world. In the British case, these structures have been interpreted in two ways: one relating them to post circles that would be the wooden version of circles made of stone (stone circles and even Stonehenge); another relating them with structures of large wooden “public” buildings. The Perdigões enclosure appears to have some peculiarities in view of this generic context. With the result of this year's excavations, we will explore this context, in a preliminary and provisional study, while it is not possible to have the integral plant. But it is already clear that, if the last two decades have introduced the Iberian Peninsula into the European context of the debate about ditches enclosures, this discovery in Perdigões definitely introduces the peninsula into the European context of these wooden enclosures (or buildings).
